While trying booting Virtual machine on network (PXE Boot) in Oracle VirtualBox its shows Fatal Error: Could not read from the boot medium! System halted.

I have been configuring PXE Server to boot the servers and install operating system on internet. To test the configured server I have used Oracle Virtual Box (with network bridge with local system).

PXE boot and Virtual box was setup properly but when I tried to boot the Virtual Machine on Network it gave error “FATAL: Could not read from the boot medium! System halted.” on the console.

The VM was not even able to connect the DHCP server configured on PXE server as in such configuration Guest System try to fetch IP from DHCP servers. After doing lot of research I found a bug report (id: 6330) on virtual box site. So I changed the Network >> Adapter Type from “Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop” to “PCnet-FAST III” from VM Settings.

Few days ago while working on MS SQL 2008 Transactional Replication I have faced following two issue

1) To find out the total number of tables to verify that Primary Server and Secondary server have same table count.

2) Tables without Primary key: After replication setup I have found that some tables were not replication. When I checked the logs it showed following error

“This table cannot be published because it does not have a primary key column. Primary key columns are required for all tables in transactional publications.”

1) Find Number of Tables:

a) Open MSSQL management studio and login using SA password or Administrator access.

b) Click on “New Query” and select the database using following command

Today in last part of this series I am going to explain how you can create the Subcriber to the Publisher which will complete the replication setup. Before we start the configuration please make sure that the hostname of both the servers are configured properly and include proper enteries in hosts file (Please refer Part-I for more information).

Creating a Subscription

1) Go to Management studio (On Publisher Server) and right click on the Publication you have created >> New subcriptions…

2) New Subscription Wizard will open. Press Next

3) Publication: Select the Publication Server from the Drop-down list and then select the Database and publication. Press Next after selection.

4) Distribution Agent Location: There are two type of Subscription i.e. Push Subscription and Pull Subscription using which we can setup replication. In Push Subscription publisher server pushes any changes made on database to the subscriber where as in case of Pull Subscription subscriber pull the data from publisher on a specified time. Push method is useful when the changes in database need to be replicated as soon as they occur.

So, select Push Subscription and press Next.

5) Subscribers: Here you have to select the subscriber i.e. Slave-DB, from the drop down “Add Subscriber” select “Add New SQL Subscriber…“

You will now get a MSSQL Login prompt which is similar to MSSQL Management Studio. Login to the Subscriber server using the “Hostname” of the server and “SA” Login Details.

1) Select the Transactional Databases: Login to MSSQL Management Studio and go to Server >> Replication (right Click) >> Publisher Properties >> Publication Databases >> Select the database you want as Transactional Database and press OK.

2) Now under Replication Right click on Local Publication and select “New Publication…”

3) New Publication Wizard window will open; Press Next.

4) Publication Database: Select the database you want to publish and click on Next.

5) Publication type: You have to select the publication type you want to create. Select “Transactional Publication” and click on Next.

6) Articles: You have to select the objects which will be published. If you have stored procedures and views in your table you can either publish along with views or stored procedure.

7) Filter Table Rows: If you want to filter rows or don’t want to publish any row you can add filter here or you can just press Next without adding filter.

Disable IPv6 Components on Windows vista, Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008

Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) is the future of Internet and soon all the domains will switch to it. Many Governments OR ISP’s has already implemented IPv6 in their countries and reasons. All the Operating Systems which are coming in market by default supports IPv6. Microsoft Windows Vista, 7 and 2008 server editions also supports IPv6 but recently while working on one Windows 2008 Server I have faced many problems with DNS as IPv6 records where inserted in DNS zone. I have disabled IPv6 from Network properties but it didn’t helped.

After searching on Google and Microsoft website I found that to disable IPv6 components you have to make changes in Windows Registry i.e. you have to add new DWORD value “DisabledComponents“ at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesTcpip6Parameters (Hard way.. isn’t it cause you have navigate to TCPip6 parameters). Disable Registry Editing Tools

This restriction disables the ability to interactively run the standard Microsoft registry editing tools such as REGEDIT and REGEDT32.

Open your registry and find the key below.

Create a new DWORD value named 'DisableRegistryTools' and set the value to '1' to disable registry editing functions. This can also be enabled on a user-by-user basis by putting the same value in the [HKEY_CURRENT_USER] hive.

Load Kernel Into RAM

Programs in Windows 98 could be loaded and Kept in RAM as long as user want. Even the user could load a video clip into RAM and play it directly from there; Windows XP is much more restrictive due to security reasons. But Windows XP provides functionality to force kernel to run into RAM. By Default, only required components of XP kernel are loaded in RAM at boot time. Here, in this Tweak I will explain how to force Windows XP kernel run from RAM.

Navigate to:

HLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session_Manager\Memory Management

Set the Value of the "DisablePagingExecutive" to 1 which will make the entire kernel be loaded in Memory (Reboot is required.)

Note: Use this hack only if you have sufficient memory (Recommended 512MB or more). Also this hack may affect some programs that use the Windows swap file directly, like Photoshop.

Show Windows Version and build on Desktop

This tweak will enable the feature which will allow to loacte the version of windows you are running. After enabling this feature you will able to see the version of Windows OS with build on the desktop of your System.

Navigate to

Modify the existing value called 'PaintDesktopVersion' set the value to equal '1' to enable and display the version.

NOTE: Reboot is required to make changes come in effect.

Empty Temporary Internet Files on Exit

Define the applications the are to be restricted by creating a new string value for each application and set the value to the file name to be restricted. (e.g. if you want to restrict the users to run Windows registry, just create a new string value named as "regedit.exe".

Restart Windows for the changes to take effect.

Allow Fast User Switching

Display the Drive Letter Before The Drive Name in Explorer.

By default, Windows Explorer will show drive letter appear first, or make it behave differently for local drives and network drives. This change applies to all users on the computer.

open the Registry Editor and navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer.
Find the values called ShowDriveLetterFirst.

The possible values are:
0 = Default Display; drive letter after description
1 = Network Drive letter first, local drive letters after
2 = Description only, no drive letters displayed.
4 = Drive letters before description.

Change the Colour of Compressed files and Folders.

Windows uses a special colour to identify compressed files in Explorer. By default, this is blue. You can set this to any colour of your choice.
Go to My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > View. Scroll down to "Show encrypted or compressed NTFS files in color"; check the box and click ok.
Then open Registry Editor. Navigate to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer.
Create a new binary value, or modify the existing value, called AltColor and set it to equal the hexadecimal RGB colour value for files and folders:Value Name : AltColorData Type : REG_BINARY (Binary Value)Value Data : 0000FF (Default)
Since we need to set the colour to red, we need to use a Value Data of FF0000. For other colours. The values are as follows:

I'm sharing 2 Tricks, which will definitely remove ADs from the new Yahoo! Messenger 8:
1.) Remove the BIG AD from the Main yahoo! screen, where we see our Buddy List:

a.) Open "%Programfiles%\Yahoo!\Messenger\YahooMessenger.exe" file into a Hex Editor.
b.) Goto the offset 3981AC and change the string "enabled" to anything u want.

2.) Remove other ADs like in chat window, webcam, etc.:

Add "INSERT" Option in CD Drive Context Menu

This is a tutorial to add "Insert" option in the CD Drive context menu.

1.) Downlad the "cdeject.zip" from http://maxmk04.awardspace.com/files/cdeject.zip , extract it and copy the DLL file to "%windir%\System32" folder.

2.) Copy following code in notepad:

5.) Now u'll get an Insert option in the CD Drive context menu.

Hide installed program in add/remove programs

Here u'll see all Entries of Add/Remove programs! u can delete the particular key to remove its entry from Add/remove programs

Removing Visited site names in IE

Create Your Own Logon Message

Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
In the Registry Editor, drill down to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
Right-click LegalNoticeCaption, click Modify, type My Windows XP Machine, and then click OK.
Right-click LegalNoticeText, click Modify, and then type your message.
Close the editor and your new message will appear at every log on.
This tip applies to computers that are part of a domain. For stand-alone or peer-to-peer networks, the custom screen appears just before the Welcome screen.

PS: I hv seen that after applying this trick in Win XP, the added "Rename" option is not visible when we right-click on Recycle Bin! So pressing F2 do the work!

Automatically Killing Tasks on Shutdown

You know the drill. You start to shut down the computer, you wait a few moments, and then you see a dialog box asking if you want to kill an application or service that is running. Instead of prompting you, you can make Windows XP take care of the kill task automatically. Here's how:

1. Open the Registry Editor.
2. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop.
3. Highlight the value AutoEndTasks and change the value to 1.
4. Close the Registry Editor.
3. enable boot defragmentation, so that files used during start-up are clubbed together.
5. disable : "clear page file on shutdown" option. cleaning the page-file on every shut down means overwriting the data by zeros, and it takes time.
